Sempre nel 1979,viene pubblicato il secondo album dell'astro nascente della new-wave Joe Jackson,I'm the man.Le musiche sono più orientate verso il rock ed il pop,sono presenti meno brani debitori al reaggae,rispetto al precedente album ad eccezione della stupenda e morbida Geraldine and John,per il resto rock tirati,con voci che si rincorrono e che duettano,assoli che si incontrano per poi sfuggire,On your radio,I'm the man dai ritmi sfrenati,Kinda kute e Get that girl più orientati verso il lato pop.I testi sono improntati all'anticonformismo e ai fastidi per le mode,attacchi nei confronti delle convenzione e delle apparenze e dei credi dei metallari.
