Complete description
There are many fascinating stories hidden in the nooks and crannies between history's main events, and the strange and dangerous journey of the Henrietta Maria is one of them. As retold in "Trouble on the Voyage" through the eyes of eleven-year-old ship's boy Jeremy, this story is both history and fiction. The merchant ship, Henrietta Maria, has been trapped in the ice of Hudson Strait for two months. It is August 6, 1631 when she finally breaks out and continues the search for a north-west passage to China. Captain James later announces that they will have to winter over at the bottom of the bay. James' written account of the wintering over is one of the most harrowing records available about the Arctic's early history, but here the story is told for children by the fictional Jeremy. With half the crew suffering from scurvy and even lacking boots, will anyone survive the winter in this cold and desolate place?
