CONCLUSION. ND here our story must end, although the history of Janet's first Sunday in her new home might be made a very pleasant one. It proved to her the first of many happy Sundays. She liked the getting up rather later than usual to meet before breakfast in the kitchen, where hung, printed for Mrs. Mason by the village school-master, who had seen Marion's Saturday text and had given this to take its place on Sundays, the words, in large letters, This is the Day that the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. And Janet liked the Sabbath hymn, which alljoined in singing to some good English tune, and which was led by the sweet sister voices of Jane and Marion. And then the quiet breakfast was so refreshing in the cool parlour, only used for meals on Sundays; and after breakfast, the maid removed the things, and the mother and daughters felt the pleasure of resting for one day without household duties, and read one of the Sunday lessons with the younger children, to whom Mrs. Mason explained it afterwards with such pleasant words and interesting anecdotes, that Janet was quite sorry when she had done. Then they were a large family party of ten to go to church; and there was no need for thinking about dressing, since everything had been ready before. And Janet, who had been prepared to expect to find interest and help at church, discovered a great deal in the prayers that she could understand, and liked the most part of the sermon very much. And then there was catechising inthe church in the afternoon, which she came to like very much, too, when she found that she could often answer the clergyman's questions.
